About Freelance Gal

My name is Tara Hamilton and I am the owner, operator and sole employee of Freelance Gal. I am formally trained as a biochemist (Ph.D. Biochemistry, University of Kentucky, 2004) and, before starting my own business, I worked at Duke University as a research scientist for 2 years. However, as a mother to 2 year old twins, I found it very difficult to parent and work the hours expected of a scientist in the proving stages (as a postdoctoral fellow, 60+ hour work weeks are not unusual). I luckily found this little niche and coincidentally use much of the computer expertise that I amassed during graduate school. As a virtual assistant, I am able to truly help other professionals in the completion of their projects, while still maintaining my own professional career.

In my time spent as a scientist, I was able to hone my writing skills by publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals (Samples: Article and Book Chapter). Research publication also sharpened my ability to utilize programs such as Photoshop and CorelDraw for graphic design projects. Data management using programs such as Excel is second-nature to me and I am very skilled at creating effective PowerPoint presentations.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband Brad and our two children. We love to travel, garden in our yard (wish us luck with our first vegetable garden this year!) and scrapbook.
